British Prime Minister Theresa May on Monday praised the various consensus reached at the 11th Group of Twenty (G20) Summit in east China's Hangzhou City. "This is my first visit to China, and I would like to thank the Chinese government and the people of Hangzhou for welcoming us here and for hosting a magnificent summit in this city," May said during a press conference shortly after the closing of the summit. May lauded the decision to advocate free trade by leaders attending the summit, and reaffirmed Britain's position to oppose protectionism. "We have long been one of the strongest advocates of free trade. A roles-based, open and inclusive global trading system can act as a catalyst for sustainable economic growth, and the right trade agreements can be the greatest anti-poverty policy of our time. That's why at this summit, we've agreed to oppose a retreat to protectionism," she said. Speaking of combating terrorism, May stressed the importance of anti-terrorism financing. "We reaffirmed our solidarity and our resolve in the fight against terrorism. We welcomed the progress that has been made to cut off terrorist financing, and discussed the need for proper enforcement to the UN sanctions regime to prevent the funding for any terrorist organization," she said. She acknowledged the leaders’ agreement to make concerted efforts in addressing the root causes of mass migration and providing humanitarian aid to the refugees. "The migration crisis will also be on the agenda of the UN, and here today we discussed the need for concerted global response. We agreed that more must be done to address the root causes for mass migration and to provide humanitarian assistance to refugees," said May. The relations between Britain and China remain in a "golden era," said the British Prime Minister, adding that Britain is committed to actively deepen comprehensive strategic partnership and enhancing mutual understanding and trust.
